It has been one week since the Bald Ridge Wildfire began.

Greater West Bench is in day six of being on evacuation alert, and it is common to feel a bit of fatigue or skepticism at this point. However, Blue Mountain in the southern flank of the fire remains a concern (guards are established).  The fire remains out of control and growing on all fronts, although it is contained in the northeast corner, which is why Highway 97 is currently open with limited hours (7am-7pm).

After six days of being on evacuation alert, it might be worthwhile to make sure your gas tank is still full and windshield wiper fluid is topped up. Check your grab and go bag – does need anything refreshed?

For Voyent Alert, I had only signed up for emails and texts alerts. I recently downloaded the app and find it easier to navigate and add additional locations like the City of Penticton.  I used the RDOS office address of 101 Martine Street as my Penticton location.

Again, if you don’t have the BC Care Card app – get on it.  For those who were evacuated, it has been a major pain point.

Call, text, or email anytime. 250-488-0246 or rgettens@rdos.bc.ca.

Thanks all.
