Take a ride on the new Greater West Bench bus route for FREE until end of April.

People will have the chance to ride Penticton’s newest bus route for free to start the spring.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is offering free transit service on the city’s new West Bench bus route from March 21 to April 29.

In partnership with BC Transit, the regional district launched Route 11 on Jan. 3 — a trip that travels through West Bench, Westwood Estates, and Sage Mesa and all the way to some of Penticton’s most prominent locations.

“As the new route rolls into spring, the Regional District is offering free transit service to encourage community ridership and gather feedback on how to make it better,” said the RDOS’ Riley Gettens.

A trip on the route typically costs $2.25.

“The new transit service connects Greater West Bench residents and visitors to larger centres throughout the local transit service,” Gettens added.

With winter on its way out, the RDOS plans on replacing interim transit poles and signage with more permanent, spring-like structures. “What better time to try the bus than during spring break.”

People who take advantage of the free bus rides are encouraged to enter into a draw to win a gift certificate at Penticton’s Landmark Cinema.

Public feedback on the new route can be forwarded to Mark Woods at mwoods@rdos.bc.ca.
