Public Hearing around 'accessory dwellings' will not impact Greater West Bench + Sage Mesa.

You may have seen the following on the RDOS website or Facebook page:

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) will be holding a Public Hearing on Thursday February 6, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. at the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) office at 101 Martin Street, Penticton, in relation to Bylaw No. 2785. The proposed amendments contained in Bylaw No. 2785 are related, amongst other things, to supporting the introduction of “accessory dwellings” (i.e. carriage houses) as a permitted use in the Small Holdings and Low Density Residential zones. Additional information is available at: https://www.rdos.bc.ca/…/st…/accessory-dwelling-unit-review/

Generally, the Board and the RDOS Administration support secondary suites and carriage house. These dwellings tend to meet the affordable and rental housing objectives found in many of Electoral Area OCP Bylaws.

However, due to the geo-tech hazard conditions that exist in Greater West Bench, the existing policy that restricts secondary suites and accessory development will remain.

For more information, and your reading pleasure, please refer to the January 9, 2020 agenda starting on page 178, 179, 216, 217, 218, 225, 227.... until around page 250.

Once we get the updated geo-tech review, we will relook at this bylaw.
