Bears in the Area (as usual), keep your garbage secured.

One year ago, almost to the day I posted about bears, garbage and the bylaw that prohibits garbage out prior to 5:00 a.m. on the scheduled pick up day (Thursday). You can read the post here.

If you do need to put your garbage out sooner than 5:00 a.m., Waste Connections of Canada rents residential bear resistant garbage carts. For more information regarding this optional rental program contact Waste Connections of Canada at 250-490-3888 or 1-866-998-4888.

RDOS WildSafeBC will be checking frequently. Warning letters will be issued to repeat offenders. The next step is to inform BC Conservation Officer Service who can issue Dangerous Wildlife Protection Orders.

The RDOS has the ability to fine properties that do not comply but chooses to use education and partnership with the CO Service.

Please keep your garbage and recycling secured indoors or use bear-proof containers.

Thank you,

Riley Gettens
